The free medical care recently introduced by the Katsina state government as part of a new health welfare scheme, is targeted at the aged who have attained the age of 60.
The Head of Service, Aliyu Daura, who disclosed this while addressing newsmen after the state executive council meeting, said the decision was taken to improve health condition of aged people in the state assuring that beneficiaries would enjoy free drugs for all ailments.
Daura who said the council has constituted a committee to oversee the new programme and ensure its sustainability said, “all categories of ailments are included in the scheme which is aimed at providing the basic need for the aged.”
The committee headed by state commissioner of health, Usaini Garba Yanmama, had been mandated to conduct a census of persons who have attained 60 years of age so as to engender effective implementation of the scheme.
This latest initiative is coming some few days after the state government, as part of its activities to alleviate poverty in the state, commenced the disbursement of N10,000 cash to disabled persons.
