Keshi Fears Contract Clause May Stop Amoebi AfCON Appearance

sholaSuper Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, may have given up hope of having Newcastle player, Shola Ameobi feature in next year’s AfCON as a clause in the striker’s contract may keep him out.

“I spoke with Shola Ameobi last night (Tuesday) and he said his coach did not speak with him even before going to the press,” Keshi told MTNFootball.com Wednesday.

“But apparently, there is a clause he signed in his contract two years ago that he would not dump the team for the Nations Cup. And that is what his coach is holding on to right now.

“But Shola has said he would speak with the coach after their game today (Wednesday) against Manchester United and get back to me.

“I must confess that with this latest revelation from Shola we are in a tight corner moreso that the club is uncertain of the future of Demba Ba.”

Shola Ameobi whose parents hail from Kogi state, changed his international allegiance to his native country after he represented England at age-group levels and finally got the chance in November to make an imppressive debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Venezuela in Miami.

  1. Shola Ameobi and Newcastle are not bigger than FIFA. is either he plays at the nations cup or remain unplayable for his club throughout the tournament. FIFA statues must be obeyed to the later concerning any FIFA recognised competition, clause or no clause in his contract with Newcastle football club. Nigeria and Nigerians wont accept that.
