Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker, Others to Appear Before ICPC over N168 Million Car Scam

The speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Suraj Adekunbi, has confirmed that he would be visiting, alongside other principal officers of the assembly, the office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC), on the invitation of the commission.

Adekunbi was alleged to have been summoned by the anti-graft agency, to clear the air on alleged N168 million car scam leveled against him in a petition. The speaker, in a statement signed by his special assistant on media, Akinola Waheed, made available to newsmen, said the invitation was a normal routine exercise by the anti-graft agency. The statement added that the speaker, alongside seven others, would appear before the agency tomorrow.

He said he was not worried about the invitation, insisting that the 28 Toyota Avensis cars were purchased through due process. He however denied allegation of the alleged financial scam involving the cars, adding that he was ready to answer questions relating to the allegation.

The statement reads in part: “The invitation is part of the routine exercise by the agency and that is not tantamount to conviction… The speaker is not worried as the procurement was in line with due process and done with sincerity of purpose,” the statement read.
