Super Eagles technical crew led by Stephen Keshi, are walking a tight rope except fate decides to smile on them and blow the wind of uncertainty around them away as feelers we are getting indicate that the Nigeria Football Federation seems to have lost patience with the coach leading to a crisis meeting held in Nelspruit on Saturday.
The Eagles have drawn two matches in Group C against Burkina Faso and Zambia thereby putting their chances of qualification to the next round of the competition in Jeopardy. Only an outright victory against Ethiopia on Tuesday will ensure the Eagles’ rekindle some hope of qualification.
A reliable source present at the meeting said Keshi could be on his way out despite NFF’s earlier promise to retain him no matter his achievement in South Africa. The source, who pleaded anonymity, said it would be an embarrassment if the Eagles failed to reach the next stage.
“They got all the financial assistance needed and all the support from the FA, so what is the problem?” said the source.
“The team is not playing well and that is why the late goals are painful. We have been hanging on dangerously and that must not continue. The Eagles must show commitment and play beyond the average level. But if it continues this way, we may seek an alternative to solve the technical issue,” he added.
If the yardstick of NFF is to judge Keshi with this AFCON competition then they are not a serious bunch. This team should not be given any pressure whatsever. We are building a team and the team is not a bad team at all. We have not been well treated by these white arab refrees. And all the teams we have played ,non have actually dominated us. So why all these pressure on Keshi and the boys.Why? Keshi is a bold coach and he is on track with his work and nobody, I repeat nobody should truncate it.
Does cash play football? If it does then teams like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Chelsea, Real Madrid will be winning all trophies available. Changing coaches constantly won’t work for us. Else we’ll end up like the Camerounians & Senegalese. What we need is consistency. Leave this team for 1 year more and we’ll be great. Keshi has started well, we r just unlucky.
