MTN Call Logs: Oyinlola Petitions Jonathan Over IG, Minister’s Conduct

OYINRecently unseated PDP National Secretary, and former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola,  has petitioned  President Goodluck Jonathan over the alleged delay by the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mohammed Abubakar, and the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (rtd) to make available to him some documents vital to the prosecution of his case against telecoms giant, MTN Communications Limited.

Oyinlola,  in the petition dated January 10, accused the duo of frustrating efforts to obtain  the report of police investigations into MTN’s alleged manipulation of the call logs of suspended Court of Appeal President, Justice Ayo Salami,  former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Tinubu and other Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chieftains.

In the petition, titled “My Petition against MTN Communications Limited Refusal of the Inspector-General of Police to accede to my request for certified true copies of Police Report and Call Data Records”, Oyinlola said:

“I am constrained to bring the following matter to your attention, in expectation that you will use your good offices to cause the redress of a clear case of injustice being perpetrated against me, and by extension, our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party. It might interest you to know that MTN Communications Limited has since admitted in court that the same documents it earlier denied before the panel set up by the National Judicial Council, actually emanated from it. On the March 15, 2012, I wrote to the Minister of Police Affairs, adumbrating the security implications of MTN Communications’ corporate irresponsibility and he (the Minister) graciously directed that the Inspector-General of Police investigate what I alleged.

“However, to this day; all of 10 months after I submitted my petition – in spite of countless requests to both the Inspector-General of Police and the Minister of Police Affairs – I have (premeditatedly, it now appears), been denied certified true copies of the police report of its investigation into my allegations, as well as the call logs in question – both of which are key to pursuing the matter I have in court against MTN,” he said in the petition.
