A 38-year-old woman, Mrs. Risikat Balogun of Ogbondroko area, Ilorin, has urged an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve her three-year-old marriage to her husband, Ahmed, on the grounds that he was lazy.

She told the court that her husband was unemployed and had not bothered to search for a job.

“My husband prefers playing draft and Oyo games with his friends instead of searching for a job to do,” she alleged. She said that their marriage was contracted in 2010 and had produced a female child aged two years.

“My husband has refused to struggle on his own and has not been contributing a kobo to ensure the survival of the family,” she said.

She prayed the court to dissolve the marriage, claiming, “My husband has become a burden on me since he is not ready to struggle.”

In his response, the husband said that he had been trying his best to get a job although his efforts were not yielding the desired results.

“Since I lost my former job in 2011, I became helpless because my wife has changed her attitude toward me,” he said. He, however, prayed the court not to grant the prayer of his wife, saying he was still interested in the marriage.
