Oyerinde’s Murder: ACN Calls For DIG’s Head

Adams-Oshiomhole-638x300 - Copy - CopyThe Action Congress of Nigeria’s National Youth Leader, Miriki Ebikibina, has faulted the Inspector-General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed, for quickly exonerating his men of alleged shoddy investigation and possible complicity in the murder of Olaitan Oyerinde, Principal Private Secretary to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state.

Oshiomhole, on Thursday, during the launch of a new code of conduct for the Nigeria Police, accused the Deputy Inspector-General, Force CID, Peter Gana, and other investigating officers of making a mess of the investigation into his aide’s murder.

He said the police had a hand in the gruesome murder of his former principal secretary.

In his response to Oshiomhole’s allegation, the IG-P, M.D Abubakar, on Friday, dismissed the allegations as ‘unfounded’ and said he would fully respond to it “at the appropriate time and in due course.”

Ebikibina, however said instead of Abubakar to sanction the affected police officers, he was busy defending them and engaging ‘the governor in an exchange of words.’

He said, “The ineptitude of the police command is a shame. The IGP ought to have placed the DIG on suspension and set up a thorough investigation panel to unravel the serious allegations the governor raised against the police

“It is saddening and unacceptable for the IGP, whose command, after almost one year, was unable to unmask the real killers of Oyerinde, to defend and engage the governor in an exchange of words.

“It is not only a disservice to the ethics of the police profession, but a clear demonstration of corruption.”

According to Ebikibina, ACN was in support of the call for the immediate sacking of the DIG.

“We call on the IGP to take the bull by the horn and stop playing politics with Oyerinde’s death,” he added.
