Five persons were yesterday killed by unknown gunmen, while 10 houses were burnt, in Tor Donga town of Katsina-ala local government area of Benue State.

The attack which occurred between 8 and 9 am, sources say, was caused by a clash between some political thugs who were fighting for superiority in Tor Donga, a town located on Katsina-Ala-Takum express way.

A notorious political thug identified as Agwaza popularly called “Ghana had”, two weeks ago, allegedly attacked and killed some Fulani herdsmen in another part of the town. This infuriated Ghana’s rival who according to reports connived with the Fulani herdsmen to mount reprisal on Ghana’s family.

When Ghana’s abode was invaded, they learnt that he had fled and was taking refuge along with his gang in an unidentified house in another part of the area.

Ghana’s gang killed the head of the vigilante who mobilised his members to intervene, along with his second in command.

The murder of the vigilante head infuriated the people of Tor Donga, and in retaliation, they attacked the elder brother of Ghana who is the principal of DOY secondary school Harga, burnt down his house and cars.

While confirming the attack, Police public relations officer (PPRO) DSP Daniel Ezeala confirmed said five dead bodies were recovered, and 10 houses were burnt. However, no arrest has been made yet, but he assured investigation was ongoing.
