AFCON Victory: It is a sign of the good things happening and good things to come in Nigeria – Jonathan

jonajubiPresident Goodluck Jonathan has said that Nigeria’s victory at the 2013 African Cup of Nations was a manifestation of the on-going transformation in Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen in London, shortly after watching the AFCON final where Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso 1-0, Jonathan expressed happiness at the victory: “I am very happy, they have made me proud. This is a sign of the good things happening in Nigeria and a sign of good things to come,” Jonathan said.

He also described the team as a “transformed Super Eagles” as he urged Nigerians to close ranks in other human endeavours to ensure the success of the transformation agenda: “This is a transformed Super Eagles, and their success shows that with cooperation we can achieve a lot. We should all work together to achieve our common goals,” he said.

The President watched the match with his wife, Patience, the Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Amb. Dalhatu Tafida and his wife, Mrs Salamatu Tafida.
