Demolition Exercise: ‘We Are Sorry’ – Gov. Al-Makura Apologizes To Owners Of Affected Structures

Umaru-Tanko-Al-Makura1The tears, wailings of sorrow and gnashing of teeth that usually trails the demolition of illegal structures by government, has elicited a feeling of empathy from Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State who has apologized those that may have been affected by the ongoing demolition in the Greater Karu Area of the state.

He was however quick to add that the exercise will continue as it is in the public interest. Al-Makura while speaking with newsmen yesterday in Abuja expressed regrets that Nasarawa being the corridor of the FCT has over the years turned into a slum, a ghetto and centre of criminality.

He said he is duty bound to contribute to the stability, security and sanity of Nasarawa people and the FCT.

“The motive behind the demolition taking place at the Abuja corridor, especially from Mararaba up to Masaka is for the sake of the environment. We have realise that the congestion and illegal obstruction of sewage lines, occupation of virtually every available space is causing serious problem to the environment and to the people.

“If we don’t do this quickly to restore order, we shall have a lot of problem that will be insurmountable. For those affected, we are sorry, there is nothing we can do about it,” Al-Makura said.
