Deputy Captain of the Ghanaian National football team, John Pantsil has been arrested by the police in Accra for allegedly stabbing his wife.

Greater Accra Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, DSP Freeman Tettey who confirmed the arrest said they were holding the footballer for domestic violence.

According to Tettey, there was an incident in the couple’s Trassaco Villa residence in Accra at about 5pm Friday.

The wife, Richlove Pantsil was forced to jump the wall into a neighbour’s house, police say.

Pantsil who had pursued her to the neighbour’s compound was said to have also assaulted the neighbour when the neighbour tried to restrain him.

The Legon Police was informed and Pantsil was subsequently picked up for questioning.

DSP Tettey said further that the police had taken a caution statement from the football star for further investigations and said the police had been informed the wife who collapsed had been rushed to a hospital for treatment.

However, John Pantsil’s wife Richlove had in a sharp rebuttal told Joy FM, an Accra based radio station that she had not been assaulted.

While she denied sustaining any injury, Richlove Pantsil however admitted there was a “minor” incident in the house which she was not prepared to make public.

“I don’t want to go into details… he hasn’t done anything”.

“I am not at the hospital. Don’t believe what the policeman is telling you. I am at home at the moment and preparing to go the police station myself”, Richlove said.
Pantsil was reported to have stabbed his wife in the eye as he suspected her to have taken his missing $20,000.

John Pantsil’s alleged assault on his wife comes at a time when another sportsman, Oscar Pistorius is standing trial over the murder of his girlfriend. He was granted bail by a court in Pretoria, South Africa earlier today.
