Nigeria Police Force Deploys 140 Officers to Mali

police10In order to further boost the country’s contribution to efforts at restoring peace and security to war-torn Mali, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police has ordered the deployment of seven investigative police officers (IPO) and one Formed Police Unit (FPU) comprising 140 personnel to Mali.

The FPU comprised trained and seasoned police personnel skilled in counter-terrorism and crime detection techniques.

The peacekeepers, it is expected, will support the capacity development of the Malian law enforcement agencies. Currently, the Nigeria Police have about 800 international peacekeepers in countries like Liberia, Haiti, Sudan, South Sudan, among others.
