Contrary to widespread propaganda in the media by loyalists and family of hospitalized Taraba State Governor, Danbaba Suntai that he has been discharged and is recovering well, the state Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar who recently returned from a visit to see his boss in Germany, has given indication that the governor might stay longer than widely reported.
Information Nigeria recalls that the governor was badly injured when a small aircraft, Cessna 208 he was piloting lost contact with the control tower about 30 miles to the Yola airport in Adamawa State and crash landed. He was subsequently flown to a German hospital in November 2012 and has been receiving treatment since then.
In the last few weeks, Mr. Suntai’s propagandists have released photos of the governor with the aim of dispelling the notion that he is brain dead as speculated. In the first photos of the governor made public, Suntai is seen in a sitting position holding one of the twin babies delivered by his wife but looking aloof. In yet another photo that appears to be a better effort than the first, Suntai is seen standing close to Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang and smiling in the direction of the camera.
However, Umar, after his visit to Germany, affirmed that Suntai was still receiving treatment.
He said: “I went to Germany to see my boss; the first day when I went it was his time to take tea because there in Germany the weather was very cold, then I went back to my hotel room. The next day I went to the hospital when my boss saw me he then smiled and waved at me he did not speak with me and there was no message from him to the people of Taraba.”
The Acting Governor however said he doesn’t know the origin of the photographs that flooded the media recently.
“I have concluded arrangements for my commissioner for information Emmanuel Bello to travel to Germany to see the governor and it is expected that when he is there all what the people are calling for a tele-conference with the governor would be done by the commissioner I believe he is going to speaks with all of you here with the permission of the doctors,” he said.
