21-year-old Man In Court For Assaulting Blind Father

A frustrated son has beaten up his father who is visually impaired and allegedly threatened to kill him after blaming him for his woes in life.

Chidera Ajalu, 21, allegedly battered his father, Benjamin Ajalu at their home at Egan, Lagos State, after blaming him for his misfortunes.

The young man assaulted his visually impaired father and even allegedly used a wooden chair to hit his dad on the head at 17, Saviour Street, Egan, on the outskirts of Lagos.

According to his mother, Chidera started behaving strangely lately; keeping late nights and worse, he became violent against members of his family.

His bad behaviour affected his relationship with his father and other members of his family.

Chidera’s frustration it was gathered was not unconnected with not finishing secondary school and having no money to start an electrical business after he learnt the trade.

Chidera’s mother said he blames his family, especially his parents for his predicament, but when his dad was working and begged him to go to school, Chidera refused.

The matter was reported at Igando police division and he was arrested and charged to court for assault occasioning harm.

Chidera who pleaded not guilty was granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum by the presiding Magistrate, Mr P. E. Nwaka

He was however remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will meet his bail condition.

Nwaka adjourned the matter till 22 April, 2013.
