Three persons were yesterday killed by cultists who went on rampage in different parts of Ilorin, capital of Kwara State, yesterday while five others were injuries. The incident happened at Adewole, Gambari, Aduralere and Mubo areas of the city.
In the meantime, the Kwara State Police command has arrested two persons in connection with the development, while investigations are still ongoing.
The incident was said to have started last Friday at an unnamed drinking joint in Mubo street with the killing of a middle-age man working in a barbing saloon at Lajoorin street. He was reportedly killed with a machete.
The killing of the man led to reprisal attack with another killing between Gambari and Adewole areas.
Also a five-man gang believed to be cultists reportedly chased a rival gang member to Ipata area of Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.
The incident created panic within the densely crowded Ipata market as the cultists shot sporadically into the air while chasing their target who was eventually captured and shot to death.
The confusion continued till around 8: 00 am yesterday, prompting many residents to run for their lives.
The last victim was identified as Gani, a 30-year-old, sources say. He was shot in the neck around 9: 00 am by his attackers who were said to be fully armed with dangerous weapons.
An eyewitness said the victim who used to live at Aduralere was chased from his area to Ipata area where he was gruesomely murdered.
