Alamieyeseigha Has Suffered Enough, He Deserves State Pardon – Presidency

THE COUNCIL OF STATE MEETING IN ABUJA ON TUESDAY

It is official! The Presidency has confirmed granting state pardon to former Bayelsa state Governor, Diepreye S.P Alamieyeseigha and seven others. This was confirmed by Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, who spoke on a live television programme, Sunrise, on Channels Television. Okupe stated that the public outcry over the pardon of Alamieyeseigha was unnecessary as he had served out his prison term and had become remorseful.

Okupe said making a big deal of the ex-governor’s case out of the eight persons pardoned by the National Council of State appeared to be a witch hunt.

“A man was deposed, he was hounded, tried and jailed; What is wrong with giving pardon to a remorseful sinner?” Okupe queried.

He then went on a series of rhetorics to suggest that the former Governor had suffered enough: “How come granting pardon to him has become an aberration? Is it because he is from Bayelsa? Is it because he is from the South-South? Is it because he is connected to Mr. President?”

More so, Okupe said it was not Jonathan, who was Alamieyeseigha’s deputy from 1999-2005 that granted the pardon but the National Council of State.

He therefore charged Nigerians to respect the institution of the National Council of State.

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, the National Council of State granted pardon to DSP Alamieyeseigha, former Chief of General Staff, retired General Oladipo Diya; a former Chief of Staff Supreme, late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua; Major Bello Magaji; Mohammed Lima Biu; Shettima Bulama; late Major General Abdulkareem Adisa; and Major Segun Fadipe.

  1. They might say we are men & we make mistakes but God didn’t give the devil a pardon bcos he tried to abuse power, this ailamesia is a devil, he is only pretending to be remourseful. How can a man to lead his people & take all they have away & his people keeps dying & crying & begging…. He is a wicked man & he has to be kept in jail his lifetime just the way the devil is been kept in hell….

    • Big shame to Jonathan.all he has achieved so far since his reign is defending and protecting criminals that have looted this nation blind.Nigerians shld kno better by now,the politics of tribalism and religion does not pay,Jonathan case shld be a good example to all Nigerians.we voted him jst bcos he is from the south south, the area that lays the golden egg for the entire nation.but unfortunatly, this man in question does not have what it takes to take over the mantle of leadership@the state level not to talk of nigeria as a whole. He has proving to us that he has no vision for this country.

  2. No wonder this govt is faililng badly when Jonathan surrounds himself with people like Doyin Okupe, we know he is remorseful that’s why he was let out of prison and I think that was enough pardon for the thief

  3. BRAVO BRAVO to our foolish president.Truely, this man has no vision for Nigeria.when almost 80% of the youths are roaming about the streets of Nigeria, searching for unavailable jobs, when the rate of terrorism has increased in its maximum, when our country is no longer a safe heaven for foreign investors, when the rate of crime is at its highest level, when the rate of corruption is unimaginable, the best our foolish president could do is to grant presidential pardon to notorious criminals that has brought shame to the entire nation.once again,I say a very big bravo to our own GEJ,a president that has no vision,no experience.Nigerians need better than this kind of leader
