Minister of Information, Labaran Maku came under the hammer of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) yesterday for insinuating that insecurity in the country started in ANPP states.
Maku, while speaking in a Radio France International (RFI) radio programme yesterday morning, said the current insecurity problems in the country started in the ANPP controlled states of Yobe and Borno.
But the Special Adviser to the ANPP Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman Senator Ali Modu Sherriff, Malam Umar Duhu, accused Maku of politicizing the insecurity challenges in the country in a manner that suggests he understands his role as a PDP minister and not a minister of the Federal Republic.
“We listened to the Hausa service of Radio France International where Maku, said the security challenges in the country started in ANPP states. As a Minister, Maku personalized the issue as if he is a Minister for PDP and not that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Duhu said.
Duhu added that insecurity problems were experienced in many states of the country long before it came to Yobe and Borno states.
“You cannot disassociate boarder states like Borno and Yobe from the influx of all kinds of characters. This is due to the porous nature of Nigerian boarders. Is Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, Niger, FCT ANPP states? What about the over one decade ridden sectarian crises in Plateau State?” Duhu asked.
He advised Maku to “avoid bias and act according to the constitution which he swore to guide religiously.”
