Ben Affleck is among the celebrities who have voiced their support for gay marriage as arguments on the subject started at the Supreme Court of the United States yesterday.
The constitutionality of Proposition 8 was debated yesterday, and several famous faces have spoken out in favour of lifting it and allowing same-sex couples to tie the knot again.
Barack Obama’s account tweeted a photo saying “Same-sex couples should be allowed to marry”, with the caption: “RT if you agree. #MarriageEquality”
Ben Affleck replied: “I agree.”
Kristen Bell wrote: “today, the Supreme court is hearing 1 of the most important cases in history. dont sleep on it #equalitymatters”
Sophia Bush, formerly of One Tree Hill, added: “People who hide hate & excuses 4 inequality behind God r missing the point of faith entirely. @EqualityMatters”
Alyssa Milano, meanwhile, said: “Changed my profile picture and header in support of marriage equality. Feel free to do the same!”
It was also reported yesterday that a leading NFL player, who has not been named, is seriously considering coming out before the end of his professional career.
A lot of celebrities have come out in the past after hiding for years for fear of being rejected by the society, but today more people are speaking up for marriage equality, with the society starting to respect their choices.
