JABU, OAU and UDIP Students set to Reshape Nigeria’s educational Sector with eduCr8

educsul - CopyThree outstanding Nigerian students have once again showed interest in reshaping the Nigeria’s educational sector. The trio explained further that the Nigerian educational sector isn’t very poor, it only needs some reshaping.

In an interview with the team leader Olamijuwon Emmanuel a 400level student of Demography and Social Statistics, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, he explained further that “we are solving a global issue, we want to make education interesting to kids with the eduCr8 project”. The eduCr8 project is expected to provide kids with resources that is expected to make students excited to go to school so as to share with other kids what they watched.

The reason for this solution as described by the trio is that out of an average of 20million students who are enrolled in primary schools, only 5million students advance to the secondary level. The national impact of the weak vocational education option for Nigerians who drop out of the educational system is the low quality of vocational and technical skills in the country. This is the reason why there are auto-mechanics without mechanical skills, bricklayers that cannot lay bricks, painters that cannot paint, and many more basic skills that are lacking in the country. It is the reason most Nigerians would prefer artisans from Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic than artisans from Nigeria.

What emerges clearly is the need for an urgent reform of the vocational education system in the country. Nigeria cannot continue to have this number of its citizens just roaming the streets without the required skills to survive in a modern world.  It has critical implication for the security situation in the country and, most importantly, for economic growth.

eduCr8 is expected to kick off fully by June 2013, and all legal requirements we are currently seeking says the Project Cordinator Awede Kehinde a Medical Student of Obafemi Awolowo University. He explained further that within the first three years of the project implementation, it is aimed that the proportion of kids who roam the street as a result of loss of interest in education will be reduced. Also, it is targeted that an increased student performance in national examinations will be achieved through the eduCr8 project.

Currently, we are in the pilot stage we have tested our project on some kids and we have gotten a favourable result and we hope that we will achieve our goals as targeted says the eduCr8 team. What we need now is the government support and we are currently seeking investors as we hope that this project will also create employment for developers, and other social innovators around the country. This is just the beginning says the trio and we believe that we have the power to change the world.
