The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party has called on Nigerians to search for the truth in the Easter period.

In an Easter message sent by the party on Friday, the PDP urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of love, selflessness and service as exemplified by Christ, saying that was the only way to ensure a peaceful and prosperous nation where all the people would be happy.

The party stressed that it was only the truth that had the ability to prevail against all odds as portrayed by Easter, and hence insisted that truth must be the watchword of all Nigerians.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh on behalf of the party said its prevailing ability as underscored by Easter was summed up in the words of Clarence Hall when he said, “If Easter says anything to us today, it says this: You can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there. You can nail it to a cross, wrap it in winding sheets and shut it up in a tomb, but it will rise.”

The party therefore urged Nigerians to love one another and to be their brothers’ keepers, while also charging the nation’s leaders to emulate the humility and selflessness of Jesus Christ and see their positions as call to service and not for selfish gains.

The party quoted a statement from Pope Francis where he said, “Whoever is the most high up must be at the service of others.”

The ruling party therefore charged all Nigerians, especially elected and appointed office holders across the board, to assist one another wherever there is suffering.

The statement said, “Our being one country despite the cultural and religious differences is not an accident but an opportunity to share and cherish our common humanity.

“No force or ideology is strong enough to disintegrate Nigeria. Nigeria has come to stay and will certainly outlive those threatening its corporate existence.”
