One robbery suspect was yesterday killed by Policemen attached to Dolphin division, Ikoyi, yesterday, while three others were arrested as the police engaged a five-man robbery gang in a shoot-out.
The gang operated in an estate around Ikoyi, according to reports, in a house-to-house raid, where their victims were dispossessed of cash, phones and other valuables.
A brave resident it was gathered contacted the Policemen from the division, who arrived at the scene promptly. On sighting them, the robbers reportedly opened fire during which one of them was gunned down.
Three suspected members of the gang however couldn’t escape as their operational vehicle left before they could catch up with it.
According to the Police, the suspects are all residents of Ajegunle and Olodi Apapa areas of Lagos.
One of the suspects, who identified himself as John Chukwu, told policemen that his gang’s main target was a couple who just arrived from the United Kingdom. His gang, according to him, got the information about the couple’s arrival from a resident of Ikoyi.
He however expressed the gang’s disappointment, saying: “When we got there, we did not see the money and gold which our informant claimed the couple brought. Out of frustration, we decided to raid other people so as not to return empty handed because of the trouble we went through.”
Items recovered from the suspects included laptops, Ipad, wristwatches, smart phones stolen from their victims and house breaking equipment.
The suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
