The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied media reports that it was confronted with demand from the southwest zone of the party for the restoration of the speakership of the House of Representatives to the zone.

It would be recalled that the party zoned the position to the South West but following high wired political horse-trading on the floor of the House, the PDP’s anointed candidate, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola was floored by the current Speaker, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal from Sokoto state.

However, PDP national publicity secretary Olisa Metuh while responding to media reports that the Southwest zone of the PDP had launched fresh moves to unseat Tambuwal as speaker and Mr Solomon Onwe as acting national secretary of the party,  Metuh said “there was no demand from the Southwest zone of the PDP for the ouster of Speaker of Reps and PDP national secretary during our visit and nobody mentioned national secretary. It is a known fact that the PDP had lost the slot of speaker through the contrivance of the ACN and that is why we are supporting the current speaker.”
