Two men traveling on a motorcycle were on Sunday gunned down by unknown gunmen along Kardarko-Wase Road in the Southern part of Plateau State.
According to reports, the two men, believed to be local Tarok, were gunned down by suspected Fulani herdsmen in retaliation for the killing of nine Fulani in the area two months ago. A source however said the killing was done by their fellow Tarok men.
The two men were said to be returning from Langtang when they were ambushed behind the Wase Rock and shot. The gunmen were said to have fled after making sure their victims were dead.
A source had alleged that the victims were attacked by fellow Tarok following a disagreement at the Tarok Day Celebration, which took place at Langtang. But this was debunked by another source, who said the distance between the venue of the celebration and where they were attacked was much.
Media Officer of the Special Task Force in the state, Captain Salisu Mustapha, confirmed the killings, disclosing that two people had been arrested in connection with the incident and are helping with investigations.
He said the identity of the victims and their attackers were yet to be confirmed.
The killing in January of the nine Fulani herdsmen, while coming from a market had sparked off ethnic animosities in the area but was later doused when officials said the attackers were armed robbers and not ethnic militia. [Vanguard]
