5-Year-Old Banned From School Because Of Haircut

One child’s new trim just got him cut from class.

Ethan Clos With Mohawk Haircut

Ethan Clos, 5, of Springfield, Ohio, was banned from his kindergarten class because of his “mohawk,” which Reid Elementary School officials said was too distracting, WHIO reports. “They seen his hair like it was. All the little kids were going over and feeling on it and everything,” Clos’ mom, Keshia Castle, said.

The boy’s grandmother said the haircut is similar to other styles that the school finds acceptable.
“If you look at the Mohawk and if you look at the fade, there’s not much difference except he’s bald on the sides,” Joyce Wells said, according to the Dayton Daily News.
Castle said, after spending two days away from school, Clos would be back in class on Monday — with a shaved head.

The issue has set off a touch of local controversy, with several callers telling Hot 1047’s DJs that the educators in Clos’ classroom should have been able to handle whatever distraction the 5-year-old’s hair caused.
