The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), through its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has infiltrated the ranks and files of the controversial All Progressive Congress (APC), an initiative of opposition political parties in the country.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed made the claim while briefing newsmen in Abuja after a caucus meeting of the opposition parties forming APC. The ACN national publicity secretary also insisted that the APC acronym already chosen by the opposition parties would not be changed, despite the controversy that had trailed the name with other group laying claim to same.
According to him, “where have they not infiltrated in Nigeria? We have been in this business for long, we know where it is coming from, we know who is financing them… When the fake APC fell by the way, they have to try another thing. Here, everyone that matters from Modu Sheriff, Shekarau and everyone are here at the meeting,” Mohammed said when asked if the PDP has not infiltrated the opposition camp.
Continuing, he said “when somebody want to ambush you, he will try his best to ambush you, it is left for you to work on the straight path. There is no time INEC (Independent National Electoral Commission) told us that we are doing anything wrong in our bid to merge… The ACN has written to INEC on the convention coming up in Lagos on April 18 and they (INEC) know we are going to discuss the issue of merger among other things.
“Some people have said we should change name, but yesterday (Sunday), we heard that another group is trying to register as APCN. So if we had not stood our ground on doing the right thing, we would have run into name crisis… Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has also constituted a 33-man committee on the merger, same as ANPP. Today here, we are fine-tuning our constitution and manifesto, which is part of the process we must follow before our merger,” he said.
