Ask Jay: He Was Forced to Marry Me, Now He’s Maltreating Me. What Should I Do?

Dear Jay,

I got pregnant for a guy and he was forced to marry me. Since then I have known no peace with him. I have tried my best to make him happy but all to no avail. Any time I try leaving him he always begs me to stay back. What should I do?

Dear N. S,

I understand how badly you must feel about the situation. It must be really hard being married to someone knowing that he might only be with you because he was forced. I know you probably feel guilty about that and that’s why you’ve been doing your best to make him happy.

Well dear, the fact is that, you are married to him. I strongly believe in the sanctity of marriage and I believe that if two people are committed, they can make a marriage work. There must be a reason why your husband keeps begging you to stay with him.

I suggest you sit him down, have a heart to heart, tell him how badly he’s been making you feel, ask him what the problem is and how you both can fix it, let him know how dedicated you are to the marriage and how determined you are to make it work. Give it your all my dear, for your sake and for the sake of your child. I believe that everything will work out. I hope this was helpful. I wish you the very best.

  1. The duty of a woman is to live wit her husband al the days of her life. Wateva happens in ur marriage’s journey must b endured bcos when u were signing ur marriage contract u have vowed neva 2 leave ur husband bt lives wit him for beta 4 worse till death do u part. Biblical speaking, on no account shuld a woman divorce her husband or lives wit a divorcee. Death is the end of the marriage contract. For the woman wich hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; bt if the husband be dead, she is loosed 4rm the law of her husband.
