Nigeria international and Sporting Braga defender Elderson Echiejile got his marching orders for the second time this season in the game against another Portuguese club, Estoril, on Friday.
The recent send- off was a straight red for a late tackle, coming in the 84th minute after an extraordinary performance at the backline of Braga’s defence. It was in contrast to the February incident, when Elderson was sent off after a second bookable offence in Braga’s 3-2 home win over Vitoria Guimaraes.
Braga went on to lose the match 2-1 in Estoril’s favour, their first loss to the club since the 2005 season.
Having gathered 46 points from 27 games, Braga occupies the 4th place on the league table, three points outside the bracket for a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot.
Estoril have moved to 5th place on 38 points to join Braga in the Europa League qualification bracket.
