Chelsea’s long time interest in Bayern Leverkusen’s attacking midfielder, Andre Schurrle, may be sealed with a deal anytime soon.
According to a report by a German news tabloid Die Welt, Schurrle has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and the Blues are willing to spend €22 million to bring him to Stamford Bridge. The 22- year- old German could sign a contract until 2018. Officials representing the German club will travel to London on Friday to negotiate the details of the deal which- with player’s wages included- could be worth around €50 million.
Chelsea FC had been after Schurrle before the start of the season but it was rejected by Leverkusen at several times.
The German international thinks it’s ‘an honour’ to be touted by the European champions.
The General Manager of Leverkusen, Rudi Voller, speaking earlier this month told Deutshe Presseagentur: “We are receiving transfer enquiries every now and then.
“Andre Schurrle is not the only player of interest. It is obvious for us to have a look at those proposals. We also did that last summer.”
21- year- old Chelsea midfielder, Kevin de Bruyne, presently on loan at Werder Bremen has been penned down as a possible replacement for Schurrle in case he leaves the club this summer.
Patrick de Koster, De Bruyne’s agent insists, “Bayern Leverkusen is a very good option.
“They will play in the Champions League next season and Kevin could take Andre Schurrle’s role.
Kevin wants to further his career, and Leverkusen could be the right destination.”
On Chelsea’s unpreparedness to sell the Belgium international except on another loan deal De Koster said: “They are eying another loan, Beside Leverkusen, Dortmund and Schalke are among the clubs interested.”
