The Northern states’ Houses of Assembly’s Speakers’ Forum on Sunday appealed to the Federal Government to include Northern governors in its Amnesty Committee that was set up to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.
In a communique signed by Mr Stephen Onmeje, chairman of the committee, which was made available to newsmen in Minna, Niger state capital, the forum commended the Federal Government for taking steps that would lead towards negotiating and possible acceptance of the amnesty.
The speakers also want various state governments, elders and traditional rulers from the region to ensure that peace returns to the region in the interest of its overall development.
It however, called on the National Assembly to hasten the passage of the Hydro Power Producing Area Development Commission Amendment Act, 2012 toward ensuring the commencement of the commission’s activities.
It also urged the Federal Government to without further delay, repair dilapidated roads in the region such as Lambatta-Lapai-Bida-Mokwa roads in Niger State, the Nguru-Gashua-Bayamari roads in Yobe State, as well as the completion of Kano-Maiduguri road into dual carriage way.
