35-year-old Ismaila Jimoh was on Wednesday sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing a goat.
Speaking at the court, Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Bamikole Olasunkanmi, said the accused committed the offence on Feb.5, 2012 at Bakare Avenue, off Federal Housing Road in Ado-Ekiti.
He told the court that the accused stole the goat, valued at N10,000 and that the goat was later recovered from the convict.
According to Olasunkanmi, the offence contravened section 383 and was punishable under section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 30 Vol.11 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria.
Counsel to the convict Mr Raji Agaje, however prayed the court to have mercy on the convict, since he had pleaded guilty.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Simeon Ojo, consequently, sentenced Jimoh to six months imprisonment with hard labour or an option of fine of N10,000 which must be compulsorily deposited with the court within a stipulated period of time.
