Chelsea players would like to have legendary midfielder, Frank Lampard stay at the club as long as possible, according to Victor Moses who scored the first goal of the night for the Blues in their 2-1 win over FC Basel on Thursday.
The Nigeria international was speaking on behalf of the Western Union PASS initiative aimed at turning every pass in the UEFA Europa League into a day of education, when he gave his opinions on certain issues in speculation about the London club.
Lampard, who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2001 from West Ham, have not been offered a contract extension at the moment. And Moses feels if the decision were up to the players, it would have been a done deal.
“Everyone would like to see Frank Lampard stay next season,” Moses said.
“He has been magnificent for us this season; he’s scored goals at the same time.
“He is a legend for this club and the players would love to see him here next season.”
Lampard has scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Blues this season, but the delay in contract extension hasn’t gone down well with Chelsea fans.
Moses, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Wigan last August, shed some light on the possible return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge as a replacement to interim manager, Rafael Benitez. He insisted the players and staff are focused on the job at hand.
“At the moment there is a rumour going that Jose Mourinho could come back.
“He is a good manager but we just keep on playing games and try to stay in the top four to be in the Champions League next season,” Moses said.
Jose Mourinho won back- to- back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006 and has been heavily linked with a move back to the club.
