Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has said that the resolve by the Federal Government to grant amnesty to members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, would go a long way in bringing to an end the security challenges the sect is posing to the nation.

Governor Wamakko, stated this in an interview aired by the Hausa service of Radio France International (RFI) on Wednesday. He however advised the Federal Government to pursue the pronouncement expeditiously. He said the amnesty, when granted, would make the members of the Boko-Haram sect to come out and present themselves to the government for dialogue.

His words: “We have deliberated on the issue of Boko-Haram at our meeting at the level of the Northern Governors Forum about a year ago and we all agreed on the need for the Federal Government to grant amnesty to members of the sect as a way to prepare grounds for dialogue between them and the government.”

He also said, in his capacity as the chairman, security committee of the forum, he had travelled to Borno State where he saw the situation on ground and realised the necessity of granting amnesty to members of the sect to end the suffering of innocent people in that state in particular and other states in the north affected by Boko-Haram insurgency, in general.
