Manchester United midfielder Micheal Carrick has been included on the shortlist for the Professional Football Association’s Player of the Year Award. The midfielder has been outstanding for Manchester United in their pursuit for a 20th league title.
Robin van Persie won the award last season as an Arsenal player and is still in contention for this season’s award. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on April 28.
Other players also in contention for the prestigious award are Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale, Chelsea playmakers Juan Mata and Eden Hazard and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez.
Bale, 23, and Hazard, 22, are also nominated in the Young Player of the Year shortlist, which includes Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, West Bromwhich Albion’s Romelu Lukaku, Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck and Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.
