Real Madrid will be without defender Sergio Ramos and midfielder, Xabi Alonzo as they travel to the Turk Telecom Arena in Istanbul. Kaka will also miss playing time after his substitution in Saturday’s 5- 1 victory over Levante in the Spanish League. The availability of Pepe and Luca Modric will likely be enough for the ‘los blancos’ to stage another impressive performance.
One player concerned about the team’s performance in tonight fixture is their new goal keeper, Diego Lopez. “The tie is not decided because we know what football is like, and we are going to a difficult ground to play a team that is better than they showed in the first leg,” he told the club’s website. “It is obvious that 3- 0 is a very good result for us, but I think the key is to score a goal there and that will practically put us through. Our mentality has to be to go there and score. To rely on the 3- 0 would be an error.”
The home team would be missing their star player and top striker, Burak Yilmaz, who was booked in the first leg for diving. Although coach Fatih Terim disagrees with the referee’s judgement, he admits to being understanding about the referee’s call and insinuates that Burak’s absence will be felt.
“That’s life, that’s football. Sometimes with 15 minutes left in a match you should get a penalty and your opponents should get a booking but the opposite happens,” he said. “We could have come away with a very different result than the 3- 0 but these things happen. I hope nothing of the sort will happen tomorrow (Tuesday) to either team. As for Burak, the most interesting thing is that only did we not get the penalty (when he was booked for diving) but we’ve lost him (for this game). The most important striker in the Champions League is no longer there. He’s our best weapon and what’s more he usually scores in Istanbul. But referees are humans, they can make mistakes.”
Another player who will not be lining- up tonight is the Cameroon defender Dany Nounkeu, after being yellow- carded at the Bernabeu. His absence is going to compound the defensive woes of a team that have conceded twelve times, far more than any other team still present at this stage in the competition. The good news for the Turkish outfit is Didier Drogba’s recent form as the striker netted twice in the league over the weekend.
Despite these challenges the home fans are optimistic as they will be creating a hostile atmosphere for the visitors to cope with in the hopes of gearing their team to a possible victory.
