The latest star to confirm that he will be competing at the Prefontaine Classic, an IAAF Diamond league meeting which will be held at Eugene’s historic Hayward field on 31 May and 1 June is New Zealand’s London 2012 Olympic Games Shot Put champion, Valerie Adams. According to the meeting organizers, the three- times IAAF World Championships Shot Put gold medalist Adams, who was undefeated throughout 2012, will face strong challenge from the London 2012 silver and bronze medalists: Russia’s Yevgeniya Kolodko and China’s Lijiao Gong.
Also in the event are the co- holder of the US Shot Put record Jill Camarena and Williams with another American Michael Carter. Two more 2012 Olympic Games Shot Put finalists were also confirmed: China’s Xiangrong Liu and Russia’s Irina Tarasova.
A complete set of Olympic Games medalist from London 2012 and Beijing four years earlier were shortlisted for the women’s Hammer Throw. Russia’s Tatyana Lysenko, Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyk and Germay’s World record holder Betty Heidler was the trio who climbed the podium in London winning Gold, Silver, and Bronze respectively.
The Beijing trios of medalists are: Belarus’ Oksana Menkova, Cuba’s Yipsi Moreno and China’s Wenxiu Zhang. They will be joined by US Hammer Throwers Jessica Cosby and Amber Campbell. The main names of the two other fields events have been previously announced and both the men’s High Jump and Pole vault will feature a complete sweep of Olympic medalists from London last summer.
