Zamfara To Demolish 800 Houses For New Airport

zamfara-state-governorIn its bid to have a modern airport, the Zamfara State government has concluded plans to demolish 800 houses which were illegally constructed at the present Gusau airstrip.

This was disclosed by the state governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari during an interactive session with select journalists in Gusau on Friday.

According to him, the houses marked for demolition were illegally constructed on the Gusau airstrip, adding that, “We have a plan to turn the airstrip into a small modern airport”.

Reeling out his plans, governor Yari said he had set up a committee to verify the actual number of those who will be affected in the demolition exercise with the view to compensating them according to the laws of the land and urged the affected owners of the buildings to co-operate with the committee as his government had no intention of adding more sufferings on its citizens.

He further posited that building the airport at the present site was cheaper than building it at the proposed cargo site.

“When I made my intention known that I wanted an airport, the proposal given to me was running to billions of naira, but I was told that with N700m I can have an airport that can accommodate small planes,” he declared.
