Las Vegas, USA, Floyd Mayweather defeated Robert Guerrero by unanimous decision, 117-111 on all three judges card on Saturday night.

Mayweather who had been out of the ring for more than a year came into the ring agile and with little rust showing in his body.

Mayweather spent the first couple of rounds at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas sizing up his opponent. However his ability to continually pounce on Guerrero proved to be more than the difference in a fight that was never a doubt, as the 36- year- old earned a unanimous decision to retain the WBC welterweight title.

Guerrero was absolutely unable to land any point that slowed the undefeated Mayweather (44-0), who went on to put up a strong defence. All three judges scored it 117-111.

“We did it again. I take my hat off to Robert Guerrero,” Mayweather, who was paid £20.5 million for the fight, said.

“I feel bad I didn’t get the knockout tonight that the fans wanted. I was still trying to go for the knockout but it didn’t happen.”

Mayweather recently signed a six years mega deal with Showtime/CBS, however, Saturday’s fight did little to bring anyone to their feet it was quite clear that he has lost a bit of the ring mastery that has marked his career.

His next fight which comes up in the fall is likely to be against a much tougher opponent than Guerrero in person of Saul ‘canelo’ Alvarez, a former world featherweight and superfeatherweight champion who is now 31-2-1.

While Mayweather was serving jail time in the prison for domestic violence, Guerrero was the WBC’s interim champion because Mayweather was not available to defend his title.

“I landed some good shots on him,” Guerrero said. “He’s a great fighter. He’s slick and quick.”
