Ex-international, Edema Fuludu, has said the N150,000 proposed minimum salary for players in the Nigeria Professional Football League is feasible only if the necessary structure was put in place.
The LMC recently proposed making N150,000 the least amount clubs could pay their players as salaries in order to improve their living standards.
“Clubs should pay indemnities and put money in the LMC account. This will show the clubs that are capable to be in the league,” Fuludu told the News Agency of Nigeria.
“Those who cannot cope should step aside even if we end up having only 10 clubs left, they should be properly run to attract more sponsors.
“The clubs should be willing to do what is right, that is when this can work. They can’t depend on government alone; they should seek more sponsorships.
“If N150, 000 is converted to dollars, one will realise that it’s still a paltry sum. But considering the economic situation and the fact that a lot of clubs depend on government for funds, the money is still reasonable.”
