A politician’s threat on the life of the traditional ruler of Lejja, Nsukka, Enugu State, has been reported to the Enugu State Police Command by the monarch.
According to Igwe Ochike, his problem with the politician was engendered by the fact that he wanted equity and justice in the distribution of political offices at Lejja.
In the petition addressed to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Nsukka, copies of which were sent to the state police commissioner, local government chairman and police Area Commander, Igwe Achike, said efforts by Lejja Adhoc Town Union to broker peace between him and the politician proved futile, as the politician’s supporters had been threatening to rain fire and brimstone on him over his boldness to challenge their principal.
“I will continue to call for equity and fair play in the even distribution of political offices in Lejja even at the expense of my life”.
“The petition which was written on my behalf dated April 8, 2013 by my lawyer J. K Ezeh would never be withdrawn as it serves as point of information to the police should anything happen to me,” the petition read.
The monarch, a former lawmaker in old Anambra State House of Assembly, and the politician was said to have disagreed over nomination of candidates in the two electoral wards of the community in the last local government elections in the state December 12, 2012.
In his reaction to the allegation, the party chieftain said the traditional ruler was not a politician and should, therefore, exempt himself from politics. He however declined comments on allegations of threat to the monarch’s life.
