Victor Anusa, secretary of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation (NWBF) has cited lack of funding as the major factor hindering the federation from pursuing international competitions. Anusa added that they are presently soliciting for funds required to embark on the Senior Wheelchair Basketball qualifiers in Angola slated for July.
According to the secretary, the federation has found it difficult getting sponsors to cater to their needs in their bid to travel to Angola, which could render them a walk- over for other teams in the qualifiers.
“We have submitted our proposal to the National Sports Commission (NSC) for the release of funds; we are yet to get any positive response,” Anusa said.
“The African qualifier is to get the single ticket to represent the continent at the world championship in Holland later in the year.
“But I am afraid the senior team may not be able to attend the qualifier due to lack of funds.
“With less than two months to the event and without a single sponsor at hand, our dream of participating in the event might be elusive,” Anusa added.
Anusa, stressing that they’ve exhausted other avenues for sponsorship, called on the NSC to urgently help the federation fund its preparation for the senior qualifiers.
