Contrary to media reports, President Goodluck Jonathan has not decided on declaring a state of emergency in five crisis-ridden states of the north.
Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati while reacting to widely circulated reports on Saturday that the Federal Government was mulling declaring a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe, Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau states as a last-ditch measure to curb rising violence in those states, said, “No such decision has been taken. A state of emergency is a very serious thing and if the government intends to declare it, it has to issue a statement on it. So, people should stop speculating.”
