The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has expressed shock and sadness over the gruesome killing of policemen and other security agents by the ethnic militia group – Ombatse at Assakio village in Nasarawa State.
The forum’s chairman and Niger State Governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, in a statement, expressed the forum’s deepest condolences to the families of the victims as well as the police high command, saying “no grievance can justify such a dastardly act against law enforcement agents”.
The statement which was signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary – Danladi Ndayebo, also frowned at the killing of many farmers and destruction of property by Fulani herdsmen in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, describing it as one attack too many.
The statement however urged security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are caught and brought to justice to prevent a reccurrence, stressing that a situation where security personnel whose responsibility it is to protect lives and property become easy targets for criminal elements was unacceptable.
The forum called on the authorities to commence the prosecution of 10 of mercenaries who allegedly perpetrated the Agatu mayhem.
