Police Investigates Activities Of Illegal Sect In Niger

Mohammed-AbubakarInvestigations have been launched into the activities of an Islamic sect otherwise known as All Muslims Security Guards (AMSG) based in Suleja Township in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State by the Police Command.

The 85-member strong sect, with a training ground at a school on the outskirts of Suleja Township had the lid blown off its operations when two of its members were nabbed with a carved wooden gun for robbery operations.

The two suspects, identified as  Isah Musa and Abdulateef  Kabiru, during questioning by the police, allegedly confessed to being members of the sect and claimed ownership of the wooden gun found on them at the time of their arrest.

However, a police source who pleaded anonymity while speaking on the matter on Friday in Minna, disclosed that the suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department just as authorities of the state police command had stepped up efforts at effecting the arrest of other members of the sect and the sect leader (names withheld) who are still at large.

The incident was confirmed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr Richard A. Oguche.
