The victim of a rape and child molestation incident Tina Okpara, perpetuated by ex- Nigeria footballer Godwin Okpara and his wife has revealed she contemplated committing suicide.
Tina who was featured in a special CNN news story about modern- day slavery on Friday, revealed: “I thought of killing myself, but I was hoping someone will rescue me.”
The then teenager was adopted and brought to France by the Okparas, who later raped and sexually molested her.
The Okparas have been serving a long jail- time since June 2007 as a result of the incident. But for Tina, she has grown into a young lady and serves as a ward of the French state.
Narrating the pathetic story, she claimed to have been held captive for five years at the Paris suburb home of the Okparas and she was barred from attending school as she was used for house help.
“I was in prison and a slave,” said Tina.
Okpara was a centre- back during his hay days, one of the shining stars of the Eagles Class of 1989, featured for Nigeria at the 1998 World Cup.
He has played for Paris St Germain (PSG) and several top clubs in Belgium and France.
