Mourinho have been touted to be Rafael Benitez’s replacement and there have been claims that the Real Madrid manager is lining up a £25 million pound move for Wayne Rooney as he wish for a physical presence up front, and believe that Rooney can fit the bill.
Bayern Munich were supposed to be battling it out with Chelsea and Paris St Germain (PSG) after revelations about Rooney’s growing frustration with the role he has had to play at United, and anger at having his fitness questioned, had had him make a verbal request to leave.
But Bayern sources have ridiculed the notion that incoming manager Pep Guardiola wants the England forward and were adamant he has never been mentioned in any discussion over a possible transfer target.
Be that as it may, Chelsea could go ahead and offer Rooney the fresh start he desires, however, PSG are bound to maintain an interest. But Mourinho’s wish for another striker like Didier Drogba could have Rooney playing in the colours of the Blues next season.
