President Goodluck Jonathan Tuesday finally got the backing of the Senate as it approved the State of Emergency declared in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States.
At a session of the whole house, the 100 senators present unanimously approved the president’s declaration.
The Senate had earlier entered in to a closed door session to deliberate on the matter and at the end of the closed door session, the committee of the whole Senate unanimously approved Mr. Jonathan’s declaration; with none of the senators present opposing it.
Information Nigeria reports that only 72 senators were required (two-thirds of the Senate) for the approval.
It is now up to the House of Representatives to approve the declaration by two-thirds of its members.
