Things can get more than a little complicated when the green monster makes its way into your relationship. Your guy feels jealous, you insist there’s nothing to worry about, but he can’t seem to get over it — sound familiar? Here’s how to handle it:

  • Consider the source. Put yourself in his shoes for a minute. Have you been acting a bit flirty with your coworker? Cozying up to one of his pals when you go out? Even if your actions have seemed harmless, take the time to step back and see why your guy may be feeling this way.
  • Focus on the fix. If you’re not careful, talking about the issue can quickly turn into a negative back-and-forth that goes nowhere. Rather than rehashing the problem again and again, steer the conversation toward action. Ask what you can do to ease his insecurities, and come up with a few small, simple acts that may help him feel better.
  • Don’t dish to your friends. When you fight with your guy, it’s tempting to call your friends to complain, but that’s only going to make matters worse. Respect your relationship by keeping the issue between you and him.
  • Make it about him. Chances are, the jealousy issue is actually about attention. If he felt like he was getting plenty of attention from you, then he may not worry about how you interact with everyone else. Make a point to show him extra affection when you’re out with other people — when you build up your relationship, you’ll build up his confidence and hopefully ease the issue.
