Windstorm Destroys 400 Houses, Injures 15 In Zamfara

zamfara-state-governorA heavy windstorm in Tsunami area of Gusau metropolis in Zamfara State, has destroyed about 400 houses and left 15 people hospitalised.

Coordinator of the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), Mr Musa Mohammed King who assessed the level of destruction in the area, said the windstorm occurred on Wednesday around 5.30 p.m.

He stated that so far, the agency had relocated displaced people to the primary school located in the area, saying “we have appealed to them  to remain calm until we take stock of the people’s losses.”

Mohammed stressed that to ensure their safety, his agency had contacted the relevant security agencies, pointing out that “as I am speaking to you, we have the police, state security service, army, civil defence corps at the scene.”

Commenting further, the ZEMA boss said as part of interim measures, the agency had commenced the distribution of matresses, buckets, blankets, among other relief materials to victims of the natural disaster.
