Seven persons were confirmed dead while three others sustained injuries when an articulated truck and a Toyota commuter bus collided along Kurwala village in Alkeleri local government area of Bauchi State.
An eyewitness said the truck with number plate, XA 654 GJW, and bus MSA 214 AA, collided when one of the tyres of the bus burst.
Confirming the accident, Bauchi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr.Sunday Henry Olatunji, said a total of ten persons were involved in the crash, out of which seven lost their lives.
“All the ten persons involved in the crash are men,”he added. “When our office in Alkeleri got the information, some FRSC officers in the local government went to the scene of crash and evacuated the seven corpses to mortuary at the General Hospital in Alkeleri while the three injured persons were given medical assistance at the hospital,” Olatunji said.
He attributed the accident to the driver of the bus “who left his lane as a resulted of a burst tyre and collided with the truck which on top speed”.
He therefore warned commercial drivers to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any journey to avoid accident or breakdown.
