The clamour for power to return to the North was reinforced by elder Statesman and former Minister of Steel, Wantaregh Paul Unongo who declared that the Northern Elders Forum, NEF would back a northern presidential candidate at the 2015 general election.
Unongo, who is the deputy leader and spokesman of the forum, made the declaration weekend at a parley with newsmen at his Makurdi residence.
He lamented that the North has not been fairly treated under the present dispensation, “particularly in structural allocations” adding that “we would rationalize on that at the appropriate time”.
The former Minister further stated that whoever or whichever presidential candidate the NEF decides to support at the polls would emerge winner given the region’s numerical strength.
While expressing disappointment with the bickering in the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, Unongo said he felt insulted by the conduct of the Governors because they are “Chief Executives who are supposed to drive, institutionalize and solidify the democratic process.
“Our heads of government ruling Nigeria have not been able to do the right thing. These are jokers. You think this thing will not fall back on you and your country? What are you teaching your children?” He lamented.
The elder statesman who reiterated his support for the state of emergency declared in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states by President Goodluck Jonathan, maintained that it was the proper thing for anybody to do in the circumstance.
